You probably right now
feels like your room is too small for you, you probably want to extend your
home or move to a bigger house. But I think you don’t have to, having to live
with the space that you’ve got. It’s time to decorate !!
Here I found
some good advice from RACHEL NEWCOMBE which I found on www.utopiagroup.com. Let’s make your room feel larger !!
Choose colours
carefully
(Image : www.homedecorxp.com)
The colours you choose for your room
décor can have a huge effect on how big or small the room ends up feeling. Dark
colours, whether paint or wallpaper, can make a small space feel a lot smaller,
whilst light colours can help give the impression that it’s bigger.
But this doesn’t mean you have to stick with completely
neutral colours on your walls – far from it, in fact. If you want to add
colour, do so in tones. Use the deepest tone near the base of your walls, then
work upwards, with the lightest tone on your ceiling. This will help your
ceiling feel higher and give the perception of a larger room.
It’s also useful to keep things looking consistent in a
room by choosing matching furniture, such as cupboards, bookshelves or cabinets
in the same wood finish or painted shade, rather than pieces in lots of
different colours. Plus a large piece of furniture can be made to appear
smaller by being the same colour as your walls.
Invest in mirrors
(Image : allroadsleadtohome.wordpress.com)
Mirrors could be your new best friend as hanging a mirror
(or two) on the walls can help a room look bigger and lighter.
You don’t have to just stick to hanging mirrors on your
walls – try adding mirrored furniture or accessories too. They’ll help bounce
light around your room. Just don’t go over board and end up with a completely
mirrored room (unless you really want that look!)
Store wisely
(Image : ny.racked.com)
Too much clutter in a room instantly makes it look
smaller, so it’s a good idea to get creative with your clutter. Find storage
ideas that look great and take up minimal space in your room, but also provide
plenty of storage potential inside their façade.
In bedrooms, fitted furniture can work wonders, for
example, especially if you have it built in around awkward corners where
standard furniture might not fit so well. Also think about furniture that will
serve two purposes, like a blanket box for storing bedding, but that could also
double up as a seat.
Light Fantastic
(Image : digs.net)
If you’re not blessed with enough sources of natural
light, then use lights to add more. In a bedroom, opt for pretty bedside
lights, fairy style lights draped around a mirror or an overhead light with a pendant
lamp shade. Or for something fancier, why not hang a chandelier?
Under-counter lights work well in bathrooms with built-in
furniture or you could have lights built into a mirror. Little spotlights on
the ceiling can create ambiance for night time ablutions, especially if you
have them on a dimmer switch.
So there you have it, I’m very sorry if I’m just copy the
article for the tips, I’m just thought it will be a great idea for you. Just
like me, I also searching to decorate my rooms to feel larger. Any way, you
could find another reference, there are plenty of ideas to get you started with
to make your room larger. Happy decorating!!
